By 2020, Rio de Janeiro will boast an unprecedented title awarded by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) and the International Union of Architects (UIA): the first World Capital of Architecture, a recognition of its wealth of styles spread across parks, avenues and beachfront. Throughout the year the city’s calendar will be dedicated to the theme, involving the residents of Rio and tourists in a broad program with events in public spaces, museums and historic buildings: Rio as the stage for discussions about the future of the world’s metropolises.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The series of events include New Year’s Eve at Copacabana Beach, Carnival, exhibitions, contests, debates, lectures and other proposals that may come from civil society. In the program, we highlight the 27th World Congress of Architects, the most important in the sector and unprecedented in Brazil, which will take place in July bringing together professionals from all continents with the theme: \u201cAll worlds. One world only. Architecture 21\u201d. And in parallel, the World Forum of Cities, the meeting of mayors of the host cities of previous congresses, political leaders, businessmen, cultural and society representatives, as well as representatives of Rio’s sister cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
